New York City is made up of five boroughs, located where the Hudson River meets the Atlantic Ocean. Manhattan is the most densely populated borough and it is one of the world‘s top commercial, financial, and cultural centers. Famous landmarks like the Empire State Building and Central Park are located there.

It is located at the southern tip of New York State and is the demographic and geographical center of the Northeast megalopolis and the New York metropolitan area. With a population of over 20.1 million people in its metropolitan statistical area and 23.5 million in its combined statistical area, New York City is one of the world‘s most populous megacities and boasts a population within 250 mi of 58 million people. As the global cultural, financial, entertainment, and media center, New York City has a significant influence on commerce, health care, life sciences, research, technology, education, politics, tourism, dining, art, fashion, and sports. It is home to the headquarters of the United Nations and is often referred to as the capital of the world. With an area of 300.46 square miles, it is also the most densely populated major city in the United States and more than twice as populous as Los Angeles, the second largest city in the country.
